Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is an annual drug, tobacco, alcohol, and violence prevention campaign in the United States that takes place in October. It began in 1985 as a tribute to DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, and it is now the nation's largest and longest-running drug awareness program.

    The campaign raises awareness about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and violence. 

  • Origin:

    It was created in 1985 to honor DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who was killed in the line of duty. 

  • Symbol:

    The red ribbon is the symbol for this campaign, which is also used by other organizations for different causes, such as drunk driving and HIV/AIDS prevention.
